Above is a hilarious video by China Uncensored talking about how China cleverly censors the Tian'anmen Square massacre. (Well... yes I subscribed to their channel.) That is, it seems like you're not blocked when you look up certain sensitive keywords, such as "June 4th"- since the Massacre was known as "June 4th Incident", on the Internet. Instead, it selects and shows you a large number of articles that actually have nothing to do with the incident for real. And on Weibo, Chinese version of Twitter, it no longer kindly reminds or warns you that it has blocked something and only shows you "Not Found", which might make you think that no one is really talking about it. "It's not important, just an incident." Besides, when you search "Tian'anmen Square", demanding the information about the Massacre, what really shows up is when citizens gathered in Tian'anmen to protest for the removal of morning decorations for a popular communist leader Zhou Enlai. While people think they're exposed to the articles and China no long censors the sensitive keywords, the reality is that it's still inaccessible to the truth. On the same day,
As you watch more of their videos, you would find how funny and ridiculous the censorship could be. Since people are not satisfied with the censorship and want to mourn the Massacre, they came up with very creative ways of avoiding the censorship. For example, they photoshoped the tanks in a photo (this video's thumbnail), taken during the Massacre, to four rubber yellow ducks. Thus, the "intelligent" Great Firewall censored “The Yellow Duck” that day. The censorship is trying to make the Chinese citizens ignorant of our history. But still, more and more people are aware of what happened in the past. The history wouldn't be simply deleted or erased even if everything was censored.
